Professor Derek Leslie
Biography
Derek Leslie joined Swansea University as professor in economics in August 2007. Previous appointments have been at Manchester Metropolitan University, Manchester University and St John’s College Cambridge University. He has also held visiting appointments in the USA at Boston University and Old Dominion University. He graduated from Oxford University in 1970, completed a Master’s degree from Essex University in 1971 and then became a lecturer at Swansea University. He completed his doctorate in 1979 as a staff member at Manchester University. His research interests primarily concern labour market issues with a particular interest in labour market discrimination against Britain’s ethnic communities and has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals. He was editor of Economic Issues 2000-2004 and served as an assessor for the Civil Service Selection Board for fast stream economic graduate appointments from 1998-2004 and was a Quality Assurance Assessor in Economics in 1999. His hobbies include keeping fit (using the crossfit approach), hill walking and watching Manchester United.
