David Metcalf
Biography
David Metcalf is Professor of Industrial Relations at the London School of Economics and has been a visiting Professor at Princeton University and the Australian National University. He has worked extensively on the economic impact of unions and on pay systems and structures. Outside the LSE he is Chair of the Migration Advisory Committee which defines shortage occupations under the new points-based system and provides general advice on the economics of immigration (see mac@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk). He is also a member of the Senior Salaries Review Body. He was a member of the Low Pay Commission from 1997-2007 and of the Union Modernisation Fund Board 2005-2007. He owns a leg of a national hunt horse and is a Jockey Club Steward at Plumpton and Sandown Park and a Director of the Starting Price Regulatory Commission. He was awarded the CBE in the 2008 New Year Honours list.
