Esmond Lindop
Biography
After graduating from Sussex University in 1972, Esmond joined the Department of Employment. He worked on industrial relations issues and incomes policy under the Heath and Wilson governments. He moved on to work as a researcher at Industrial Relations Services, covering a broad range of employee relations issues, becoming head of the organisation’s work in the field of pay and reward. In the mid 1980s he joined the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) as Deputy Director of Employment Affairs, managing a team and responsible for all policy, lobbying, research and member services relating to pay, pensions and labour market issues.
In late 1989 Esmond joined Incomes Data Services (IDS), the leading independent information and research organisation on employment matters, in due course becoming Managing Director. In this role he had overall responsibility for all activities in this leading producer of research publications and services, conferences and training on pay, benefits, employment law and HR practice.
He left in 2005, following the acquisition of IDS by Sweet & Maxwell, to build up a portfolio of advisory, research and lecturing work. His activities have included leading the team that produced a report for the CBI on functional literacy and numeracy in the workplace, Working on the Three Rs.
