Biography

Vilma Patterson manages her own company, the Consultancy Space Company and formerly was a Director in the family business, John G Duff (Annadale) Ltd.

Currently Vilma is a Civil Service Commissioner for Northern Ireland, a member of the Probation Board for Northern Ireland and a non executive member of the Audit Committee for the Office of Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland.

Formerly she was a member of the Parades Commission from 2006-2010. Vilma was responsible for the establishment and was founding Chair of the Women in Business Network in Belfast and advised and led the establishment of the Northern Ireland Business Women’s Network. She also represented both women and small business on the Entrepreneurship Forum and the ‘Go for It’ Advisory Board with Invest NI, and was a member of the Training Committee of the Construction Industry Training Board.

Vilma was a member of the Independent Monitoring Board for Maghaberry Prison 1996 – 2008 (Chair between 1998-2001) and Chair of the Northern Ireland Association of Members of Independent Monitoring Boards 2003-2008.

In New Year Honours 2004 she received the MBE for services to business and the community.
